Chinese (Putonghua)

The Chinese program of DSC prepares students to immerse into Chinese-speaking communities and prepare for the external Chinese proficiency exams to enhance their future education and career choices.

DSC offers both First Language and Second Language Chinese programs for our students and uses Putonghua as a medium of instruction. Our Chinese teachers are all native Putonghua speakers and qualified to teach in Hong Kong and China. Apart from the language skills of Chinese, students are also introduced to Chinese culture and traditions with appreciation.

First Language Level

The First Language Chinese program starts from Grade 1 to Grade 8 for native Chinese-speaking learners. The first language program follows the national curriculum designed by the People’s Education Press in Beijing. The curriculum focuses on four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

For Grades 9 to 12, we offer Chinese (Putonghua) credit courses from Levels 1 to 3. External examinations are also available for students who want to extend their Chinese Studies.

Chinese (High School Programs)

Second Language Level

The Second Language Chinese Program is from Early Years to Grade 8.  All students with or without knowledge of the Chinese language can choose to enroll in this program but they are placed into different levels of Chinese classes (Beginner, Intermediate, and Near Native).  Students can move from one level to the next based on their own individual progression.

For Grades 9 to 12, we offer Chinese (Putonghua) credit courses from Levels 1 to 3. External examinations are also available for students who want to extend their Chinese Studies.

What our community says

"For any parent, it’s a relief when kids are awake in the morning with a smile on their faces and looking forward to another good morning and day in DSC. DSC has been the school for our children since they arrived Hong Kong. We can’t be thankful enough for the kindness and support that we as a family have received from everyone at the school. We know that our children can count on their support anytime when we need it."
